Feature on graduating and moving forward This was a nice way to end my time writing for Carpe Diem. I liked my time on staff, but I was more than ready to leave.

Biased coverage of presidential primaries From observation of news media outlets from 2015-2016, I noticed that many were politically biased to the left and right, or had a sensationalizing tone. In my opinion this was dangerously influencing American voters.

An infographic to help with voting decisions Since many of my peers (the seniors) would be able to vote in the primaries and in November, I believed that an infographic dissecting what the frontrunners stood for would be useful. This received great response from readers.

Decatur celebrates same-sex marriage I think this story was only made possible because of the overwhelming LGBTQ+ representation in our school and Decatur. It was great fun listening to my teachers on how normal their lives really were, and how the same-sex marriage ruling impacted them afterwards. I usually don't like writing features, because they sometimes feel superficial, but this one was incredibly fascinating.

Investigative story on Atlanta human trafficking This might be the story that had the most sources and interviews. I was pleasantly surprised to find that so many authoritative figures and people related to human trafficking agreed to talk to me. I was intrigued especially by Representative Andy Welch's interview — he was a very amiable man and was pleased at the bipartisan support for the bill he passed last year.

The potential of 3D printing explored This was the story where I realized that infographics were very fun to make. They are versatile, and many illustrations and colors can be contributed to enhance information. I especially liked my lime green one that explicated on how 3D printing worked.

Students must combat rape culture I wrote this in my last article of sophomore year, and it was the most challenging one I've ever had. It's difficult to talk to rape or sexual assault victims. As a journalist, I wanted the story, but as a person, I really did not want to offend any of them. Luckily, they easily told me their stories (sometimes shocking nonchalantly), and I learned about a social issue that I never knew before.

Feature article on MomoCon 2014 The population of anime, manga, and certain pop culture fans at our school may be small, but is a vibrant community. Quite a few of my classmates enjoy going to conventions like these, and since the magazine was going to be published at around the same time as MomoCon, I thought this would be a timely piece.
